Fitting new rubber gaitors to my prop shafts, how do you get them on as they seem too tight to stretch over the UJ's, do you have to dismantle the UJ, or is there an easy way of doing it.

remove the prop from the vehicle, pull the sliding joint as far as you can then mark one of the splines and where it aligns to on the prop body with tip-ex or similar (clean it first so it will adhere) then using a soft faced hammer knock the two pieces apart(hit the uj yolk away srom the prop) the prop should just pop free, now fit your new boots and re assemble the prop making sure the marks from earlier are aligned

you may want to clean inside the prop while you have it apart,

don't forget once re assembled make sure you grease all the nipples and check the UJs no point striping it off again to do a UJ in 2 months time ;)

Thanks for that. The props are off as it's a reburb I did wonder if they split but didn't want to risk messing until I knew what I was doing. Cheers much appreciated.

I've got screw collars on mine holding the propshaft together - I'd try unscrewing these before applying a hammer.

me too. and if you've bought gaitors from a certain british part supplier in a blue packet, make sure they're under absolutely no kind of stretch at all when fitted in the normal ride position or next time you look under the landy they'll be split. mine were ....

yes unscrew the collar all the way off mark the prop and split it then you can easily pull off the rubber gaiter then.

I'll point this out as it has got me a couple of times, before you split the prop use a magix marker to mark the positions of the two halfs so they go back gether the same way, prop shaft phasing is important, theres also a couple of positions where the uj's correctly align, one of these will be diffo than it was, on an old shaft tghis could cause vibration or sticking.

Job went well, glad you mentionned the collar, thanks one and all. Does the grease nipple pump grease into the prop shaft as far as the spline.
