Hello All.

After tracing some transmission noise down to the prop shaft bearings, I had a look at other bits while under there. The rear diff mountings (3) when moved with a bar have some play, but how much is too much? This also goes for the bottom engine tie bar, as i call it. Any advice welcome.

Now, Ive been pricing these up and they each differ widely. From Landrover OE parts to a Britpart make and GKN. Are LR parts worth the money or do the pattern parts do the job just as well?

And last, does anyone have the part number for the bottom engine tie bar? and is it made by other than LR?

Cheers. 03 Freelander TD4

For your vcu bearings get the gkn else you'll just end up doing the job again. As for the diff bushes it's normally the front nose one that goes.......you'll start hearing a clunk under acceleration and possibly braking. A proper Landrover one is approx £15ish so I wouldn't bother with a pattern one.

As far as prop-shaft bearings are concerned Foundry4X4 do a pair of Genuine GKN mounts with FAG bearings for £32 plus £7.50 postage (mine arrived the next day) These come in a GKN box with the usual 2 'flingers' each.

Or you could buy the identical bearing - GKN with FAG moving parts - in a nice LandRover box with TOQ 000040 on the label for £70 for one courtesy of Guy Salmon the official Coventry LandRover Dealer.

Guy Salmon's price is discounted they say - from the listed LR price of £93.35.

So the 'normal' LR price for a pair would be an eye-watering £186.70

Of course you could buy the cheapest ones on eBay at £9.99 each if you fancy replacing them every 2 months or so.

It's a no-brainer isn't it.

Did you order the Foundry4x4 bearings online or by phone? Can't see them on their website.

Just checked again - here they are:

Parts & Accessories for Landrover & all 4x4: Drive Line (General), Propshaft Bearings x 2, TOQ000040X2

Moved section - even cheaper - now £22.50 a pair - I would phone to make sure they are actually GKN and with FAG bearings.

They seem to be a reputable company so I reckon you'll get a straight honest answer.
