Bought this off ebay for seven pounds and as such a neat fit thought might be of interest to others:

Provides inside and outside temperatures, and has a voltmeter too. Whole thing is backlit and it fits perfectly in the little cubbyhole under the becker radio.

I took the 12volt from the centre console:

and ran the outside temp sensor under the door trim so no cables showing:

Heres the ebay link if anyone wants one:

from china so takes a week to arrive.

Hi, thanks for that. If you don't mine me asking, where did you up actually locating the external temp sensor and how did you route the cables from the cubby hole ?

Beware Tim, it looks like you have taken power from the cig lighter socket which will be fused for 15 Amps or more. The thin red wiring to the accessory would melt if it touches the bodywork and not be capable of blowing the fuse before a potential fire starts. Just worth putting a small 2A fuse in line near to the power source. Cheers

Don't want to be a stick in the mud but I dont think putting the external temp sensor under the door trim will be very accurate as it will be drawing a bit of heat from the interior of the vehicle......
Most manufacturors mount them behind the front bumper.
Does look like a neat bit of kit though :tea:

thanks for the note about the fuse - will add one today - the original cable ended in a cig lighter plug that was fused but I chopped that off as wanted it permanently wired.

the sensor is outside the car - I mounted it under my side steps - its only the cable that goes under the door trim for neatness.

re routing to the cubby box - once you remove the innards of the box you can see the carpet - just a case then of pushing the cable under the centre console - because the carpet goes under this there is plenty of space.

Tim, did you source the voltage from the cigar lighter ? If so, (mine is disconnected with ignition off) does the clock keep the time, or do you have it fixed to a perm +12v ?

Thanks..............ebt

it has its own batteries so works fine with the ignition off - it just uses the 12v for the voltage monitor (obviously !) and the backlight.

rotten weather here today so just stuck a small fuse in line with the supply to my gadget and the cigar socket for the time being!
