I have noticed on my way home from a trip that my freebie is doing the above. It may have been doing it for sometime as i am not sure. Anyway I noticed this as I as looking out for a bit of stuttering or misfiring be cause the day before I renewed the crankcase breather with the new plastic type. When changing this I had to undo 2 of the fuel lines to the injectors so that I could get the breather out, they came of with no problem but when refitting one was hard to push back on. I had to use a handle of a screwdriver and gave it a bit of a tap then it clicked in. I reassembled everything and started her up, and she started fine it was a cold start by the way. Noticed a bit of white smoke so rev her up slowly to 2000rpm and still a bit of smoke. I thought maybe it is the new breather setting in so let it idle for a bit then gave it a few more revs and smoke seems to have drop to a barely visible amount. It was while I was holding it at 2000 rpm I then noticed the misfiring. It is a rapid constant feeling. Anyway it drives ok and there is no smoke when driving and if I hold it at 2000 rpm when driving it is ok but at 2500 rpm it is there. You would thing you where driving over little ripples in the road type of feeling. Any ideas anyone? Marty

Noticed a bit of white smoke

'white' smoke be unburnt fuel a.f.a.i.k

.. All was OK before you removed those injector fuel-return hoses ??

( just bumping the thread .. as ..
( i'm not sure if a leaking return hose would cause a misfire or not ..
( but a.f.a.i.k those hose connectors are easily damaged if one aint careful

when i replaced the crankcase gizmo .. i had to do the same
but the hoses came off and went back on with no hassle
i removed the locating pins altogether before disconnecting those hoses ..

Thanks for the reply. For the last two morning before going to work I checked to see if it was still smoking. Happy to say it is not just a puff of grey when the accelerator released. So it was just probably burning off some rubbish. I had changed the crankcase breather about three years ago but I don't remember the fuel clips being difficult to click back on and yes I did remove the spring clips 😄. Maybe it is a turbo hose, the one going down to the inter cooler is a bit oily has been since I had it and it is wearing it self out on a screw underneath it😏 so maybe a slight hole. Local Landy parts shop is selling terrafirma silicone hoses so I'll have a look at them. If that does not work maybe an injector is failing , not putting enough fuel into the chamber??. Like is said before it may have been there awhile as going to work in the morning using the same old route I don't notice it, same as usual. So probably not something I caused when changing the breather.

the silicone hoses are a good upgrade in anycase
i bought a set from DPH .. and they clear that particular screw head by a fair amount
( my original one had worn there as well .. although not holed it ..
( be easy to wrap something around the hose to protect from rubbing that screw

been a few threads about 'td4 misbehaving at / above 2500 rpm
seems to be a particular divide point ..
the 'synergy' box also divides 'effect' via setting to above 'n below 2500 or so rpm
~~~~~~
one thing to check .. might be the various electrical connectors on the fuel / ecu system
i.e. for dirt / corrosion .. as the td4 is prone to collecting rainwater around the injector
harness area .. ..
i checked mine when i bought it .. 37k on odometer .. ('n after reading thru posts on this site ) ..
all connectors were clean 'n shiny .. except the fuel rail pressure sensor ..
which showed signs of yellow-green corrosion ..
i put some 'contralube' anti-corrosive paste on all the connectors as a precaution
( be suitable for low voltage systems .. e.g. that fuel pressure sensor uses 5 volts )
~~~~~

i once had a motorcycle that was prone to electrical faults from water ingress
parked outside exposed to weather all the time ..
used something similar to 'contralube' on all contacts / switches ..
( was a red coloured paste .. that's now sold in model-train shops .. i.e. 12 volt systems ) ..
all the electrical gremlins vanished for good :)

Good afternoon all,

Was just about to post a couple of questions, when I happened across this thread as now and again I'm getting the sensation of driving over a rippled road surface at low speed as described in the first post.

So, is this an indication that one of the injectors is in very early stages of demise?

Took the landy to the garage this morning as changing the crankcase breather, turbo vent filter, fuel filter and redex did not cure the misfire. Garage just got back and said that injector no2 needs replacing. Booked in next Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes..
