I'm looking for a Michelin Synchrone tyre 225/55 R17, needs to have 8mm tread. If anyone has an unused spare I'd be very interested

Cheers, craw

Oh, I did have 4 for sale at one point when I switched to all Conti 235/55 17 size for both my summer and winter tyres - but they are all long gone to new homes now.

They must be pretty scarce nowadays.

Good luck in your quest.

Singvogel.

Prices on eBay have been well over £100 just for the tyre, they look good in the photo's but could be at least 10 years old and end up with the side walls cracking just like my fronts had.

HI Guys
I have a 225/55/R17 Synchrone as a spare that has been covered all its life and is in 'As new' condition. However I dont want to waste it and would like to get it used either alongside another on my own car or as a swap for a Pirelli Scorpion which I'm using at the moment. So I'm prepared to swap my spare for a Scorpion or pay for your UNUSED one.

I HATE waste and it's annoying me that my spare doesn't have a match.

Any takers?

If you do look on ebay ask the seller to check the dates on the sidewall before you bid.
As nickkcc warns, people never seem to think about declaring the age of tyres on ebay and the two sync’s with 6mm+ I bought early last year were 2006. (Didn’t check ‘til I got home…..)

Although they looked fine off the rim, as soon as they were inflated they had more cracks on the walls than I was prepared to use.

They ended up in the bin!

Both my front synchrones were quite elderly and had 5mm of tread, unfortunately the one was split in the tread, which I was unable to see, and failed the mot. Elderly tyres on low mileage cars can be knackered as I found to my cost. If a tyre has been sat as a spare for 7 years you may find the rubber has perished resulting in splits in the side walls and treads.

Mine is 2004, fully inflated, no damage :)

It's not just the age of the tyre that matters as to whether it's still serviceable.

The service life of a tyre is a cumulative function of several factors - storage, stowage, rotation, and service conditions - including inflation pressure.

Tyres exposed to sunlight and / or high temperatures soon show signs of deterioration - check a low-mileage caravan that has stood in the sun of a holiday resort.

This is why a Freelander spare tyre should be covered - at least during the summertime.

10 years is usually given as the recommended max age before renewal - so the 2006 tyres mentioned in the earlier post that had to be scrapped were sure to have been used or stored badly.
