Hmmm..

Recently downloaded Memory Map which mentioned something about a 30 day trial. Fired it up once to check it worked. A-OK.

Got some 1:25k OS Explorer maps (.qct files). Went to access them and up pops a window saying 3rd party map import - requires online activation for 10 day trial.

Oh well, I thought the trial versions went away once one had got hold of some proper files.... 10 days to play with them then.

Yes, I am a tightarse, yes I would have liked it for free on some slightly out of date maps.

memory map are quite hot on the licencing of maps, old version maps generally don't work on the newer version of mmap. Do you know what 'year' your maps are?

Great software when it works properly though.

I've use ViewRanger - tried Memory Map but didn't get on with it so well. The nice thing about ViewRanger is that you can use the website to plan the route (for me big screen on iMac) and then sync to the iPad for when we actually go out on the route.

They both use OS maps but I think that you can buy smaller areas on ViewRanger if you want just a specific area. Also can activate several different devices with the same licence....but you do have to pay for the maps - I think the app is free or pretty cheap for the ipad...

cheers

Well i have just downloaded routebuddy as i am using a mac and memory map don't support it.. The routebuddy seems to be ok just need to get used to using it.:D:D

Memory map prices have just dropped drastically, I've always had about 4 sections of the UK which have cost about £150, but I have just upgraded to the new 2014 OS land ranger maps for the whole of the UK for £72, and they are now in HD !

FWIW - The import 3rd party maps function would cost me £12.50 from MM.

Both the printing and GPS functionality would cost another £12.50 each.

I'm wondering if I should just stump up the £12.50 :D no more demo...

200 - I've used ViewRanger on my iPad and they have an online site for route planning.

DiffLock66 - check the prices for ViewRanger but I have 1:5000 was quite cheap plus you can buy 1:25000 on a per grid basis so you can buy just what you need.

Personally found the ViewRanger a little more polished than MM but not every bit of software suits everyone.....
