Hi Timberdog

Raising the suspension is a pretty straight forward job. The first thing I suggest you do is get a copy of a land rover magazine, such as LRO or LRM. These are usually full of advertisments from companys offering upgrade kits. They range from 1" to 4" lifts and price starts from around £260.

You can lift a defender by 2" without having to change the brake pipes but if you go higher than this you will have to purchase longer brake hoses. (although most kits come with them).

Changing the springs is dead easy, but to do it safely and easily you will need to have a spring compressor and a decent trolly jack.

For the fronts, simply compress the spring, undo the the turret nut of the shock absorber, jack the chassis up of the vehicle, undo bottom shock absorber retaining nut and hey presto!

For the rears, pretty much the same apart from the shock absorber is seperate and the springs have retaining clamps.

I think thats about it (off the top of my head). I'll look in the manual and if theres anything hugely different to what if put ill let you know.
