well its had new fuel pipes and new diaphragm in the sender unit (in tank)as thay collapsed so hope all is well ill drive it for a few days before refittng my synergy

Its not your choice of car that the problem, its your choice of garage.
garage did not charge me for the fuel pipes or the 5 hrs extra labour finding 2 faults .
fault showed up as low fuel pressure running a temp pipe from fuel filter to engine solved this fault as it bypassed the fuel sender unit. so thay changed all the fuel piped 5 hr job thinking it was collapsed somewhere.
then when it was running after 5 mins fuel pressure raised then dropped when running and thay found the fault to be the fuel damper valves in the sender unit in the tank.
thay missed the fault the first time round i was only charged for the sender/damper unit £388 +vat from land rover and 4 hrs labour.
its not easy finding a fault like that trust me i tried for weeks and thay admitted it stumped them and i was not charged so im happy with my garage.

so what to look for
smoke at 2500/3000 rpm and a misfire
fuel pump getting loud
fuel consumption up
and the smell of the smoke was rank
and sometimes a ticking from the fuel tank when on tickover

this may help people in the future that what we do here right
