stoke on trent
just noticed on my diesel freelander 1 its got a kn air filter, its a cone shaped thing, do u clean them and put oil on them like the old days or just wash them,

nowt wrong with it, per se, but stick to original kit and it won't let you down if you (for instance) go through a flood ;)

Do many people on here use k&n's? I was thinking of getting one. Never noticed the difference when i had one before though on another car

Rather think that mine was sucking cooler air in from a standard box instead of hot air from the engine bay - but maybe Im wrong...although mines a K series ;)

Air sucked in from under the right front wheelarch, not from the engine bay. I have, since october 2001 such a k&n filter (just the replacement type of the stock, put in the standard airbox) a couple of weeks after I put it in my maf was gone, now when I clean the filter the oiling afterwards is almost zero and since no problems anymore. But for performance as such I guess it's not doing much. The same story for the chipping I did, also back in october 2001, in theory you consume less fuel if you keep the same performance as before, but if you use the extra power the fuel consumption goes up as well, so my guess is that my consumption of fuel is still the same as before the chipping but I have a largely enjoyed extra power available now, both the engine and the autobox do enjoy the extrapower, looks as they were made for it but got strangled by LR.
