Not sure if anyone can help with this mess but all advice would be appreciated.
On saturday at about 3 I had a working land rover, but 5 I did not, and it was all my own doing.
I decided to change the distributor and fit an electronic ignition thingy, rather than points, so I now have to redo the timing, I think I can handle this but...
the condensor is live on both terminals? the original wire from the truck went to the negative and then one out of the negative onto the old points. I wired as per britpart instructions the new electronic one to the positive and negative terminals of the condensor but no joy, and of course I can,t seem to get the timing right, I've also tested the HT lead to the dizzy which is not sparking. I had also put on a new distributor to work with the electronic ignition.
so what I want to know is how do you set the timing with electronic points? i.e. is it a build between the positive terminal and the live on the electronic ignition and turn distributor till it lights or something else.
secondly I presume I've knackered the condnsor but don't want to repeat and get the same result. If anyone can suggest an answer I would really appreciate it.

Ignition feed goes to coil +, Britpart red wire also goes to coil +, Britpart black wire goes to coil -. Take out the condensor.
You can time it with a timing light or by ear - search forum for details!

I've tried setting up with a timing light and it was hopeless! By ear is the only way! Mine came all set up from simonbbc but wouldn't fire until I adjusted the electronic 'points'.

Been there - take it easy and don't panic, thoose fiddly jobs.........

.....On the timing remember the pulley cannot change - its a constant. work back from there. Gmake sure you got spark from dizzy, then check each lead.

Make sure you got power on each point as above reply - use multimeter.

With stuff like this its about been systemiatic, just stay calm and work it through!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice I'll report back on my progress. Could someone just confirm if the coil is live on both positive and negative terminals item not working correctly, sorry if this is a obvious question but I can't get my head round it!

If the coil isn't connected to anything but the battery (via ignition feed) you'll see the battery voltage on both terminals. With the electronic pickup connected I'd expect to see a small voltage difference between the two. You might get different results if it's a ballasted coil. I think the Britpart ignition unit needs a 12V coil and no ballast resistor.
