HI all again

Im thinking in the not to long i will need to change the clutch plate on my 2002 td4 and i want to make sure if it does go i know how much £ and time it will take me and have everything here i need

ive had a browse and search and can seem to find anything about the clutch ,apart from clutch cylinder

is there a good guide on here or the internet that anyone knows on how to change the clutch

and what if any spes tools are needed ?
how big a job is it on these? does the ird need to come out as well ?

Prop off, exhaust off, front driveshafts out, IRD off, then gearbox off. You will need to remove or shift various things, including engine mounts, in the engine bay to get access to the bellhousing bolts.

Its quite involved but not especially difficult. Gearboxes are not light though. Ideally you would do it on a 2-post lift, but it is perfectly feasible on the ground with the front lifted up on axles stands. An engine crane makes things easier for lowering and lifting the gearbox into place, along with a decent trolley jack, various blocks of wood etc.

Pointless just changing the clutch plate - you need to change the cover too, which is usually included in a full clutch kit. It would be daft to not change the slave cylinder as well, as it is inside the gearbox.

The problem comes with the flywheel - it is a dual mass flywheel. Should you replace it? will it be ok? No way to tell for certain until you see your own one and measure for free play. (I cant remember the tolerances offhand, sorry). I know for a fact that it would be a real ****er to do all this work and for the flywheel to fail six months later, meaning it all has to be done again. A new flywheel is not cheap though.
My own freelander is on the point of needing a clutch, and if I do it rather than get rid, I will definitely use a solid flywheel conversion. Cheaper than a new dual mass, and in the real world, makes no difference to the car.

i would always change complete clutch,bearing etc anyway pointless if not lol just makes more work

as for enginge hoist etc i have all that so all good

so all in all seems like a easy just time comsuming job :)
