Hi, couldn't find this covered:

The interior light in my 3dr is quite frankly crap (there's only one light and no map lights) - I have that really stupid glasses holder or whatever it's meant to be at the front instead of a proper interior light.

Is there anyway i can fit something like this? If not any suggestions for a workaround?

LANDROVER FREELANDER FRONT INTERIOR LIGHT XDE 10040 | eBay

Thanks!

That's the front interior light unit from a 5-door right enough.

I would guess that with careful use of a stanley knife you could fit it in place of the one you have. It just clips into the headlining with springy things.

I fitted LED bulbs in mine as the originals are pretty low power.

I imagine you could pick one up from a breaker much cheaper though.

Thanks, i hadn't considered fitting it in place of the original. My first thought was to try anf fit it in front between the driver and passenger where the cack sunglasses holder is - but i guess that would be more tricky?

If i replace the original light with this larger unit (provided there is space) will it affect the volumetric sensor? That's somewhere around there isn't it - i presume all freebies with an alarm have one?

Defunct. I reccomend utilising the cack hole underneath the sunglasses holder to attach another interior light or rally gooseneck or similar. Just make up a sandwich arrangement and put a base inside the thing to clamp it to. either take the 12v feed off the light, or run a fresh one in (as I am doing with the custom switch panel in the holder)

DuncanS - good tip thanks - at one point i was looking for single LED lights with a spot focus lens, which i could fit in there - they would shine down directly (green light) onto the centre console like a dim cockpit light - BMW have it built into the rear-view mirror and it looks great, doesn't distract the driver and allows you to see everything on the console. Unfortunately i couldn't find anything to make it out of and focus it with.

If you want a decent interior light without hacking your car about have a look on fleabay for LED panels. Measure the space that you have inside the fitting then get a panel as close as. They sell them with bulb fittings but I found these a bit fragile so soldered mine in. EVERYBODY comments when I open the door - usually "F**K my eyes!"

Thanks for the suggestions - i'm going to try changing the interior light to the 5 door one first, simply because i think it would work best functionally and look reasonably as if it was there originally.

I like that rally map light though - might get one anyway :)

I put a red LED 'festoon' in the centre lamp so I can run with it as a 'cockpit lamp' and LED white in the 2 side ones.

I've got one of those Avanti map-lights too - left over from my rallying days.

If / Once i get a light and get it fitted i will try that bulb combination - sounds good. Presumably green light (LR colour) isn't as good as red?
