if u lose key

how do u go on if u loose the one key and fob of a 1998 diesel freelander, i have not , but how would u start it and get in or if unlocked start it, is it worth getting a key cut to open door and then can u bypass the imobiliser by plugging in a laptop. or something

Go buy a new one. I don't think people will to tell you how to steal a freelander, even if that isn't your intention.

I know you don't see them in the stolen section but I'd like to keep mine

never crossed my mind that, at 63 years of age i dont think i will be stealing one,can u buy a new key and fob that would work,

not saying would but open forum not good to broadcast thats sort of info a stealers should be able to match key to vech. Thats if locks are original not cheap tho Timpsons do duplicate keys and prog them don't no how good they are. As for age the biggest rise in crime has been in the over 60's might be something to do with pensions or lack of them.

i dont believe that, most of us at our age worked all our lives and were brought up to know right from wrong.

Insurance policy has a keys cover bit added so I pay an extra £15 a year and they will cover up to £1500 for new locks, keys, fobs and programming in the event of loss or theft? Also covers the house keys too. Figure £15 a year is worth it? As for the over 60's bit, I have to agree, my dad's 64 next month and I cant see him going out of a night "TWOC'ing" cars either

Get a copy made from your original key and fob.

Cobblers or Timpsons usually do them and can program certain keys and fobs too.

These cost around £40 from these high st shops - no proof of vehicle ownership needed or asked for!

Alternatively Landrover dealer will do it for around £150 - you must provide proof of ownership of vehicle, passport / driving licence etc.

From advice the programmed key & fob is ordered via landrover and arrives a week or so later.

I personally tried 'Cobblers / Timpsons' for a duplicate key for my 2001 TD4 and for some reason the key cannot be programmed correctly via these high st shops - although the machine copied the chip info from my key and gave the indication of a successful programming.

I was given 2 keys, both with fresh chips, both opend the doors but wouldn't start / disarm the immobiliser - so the TD4 wouldn't start up !!

After the shopkeeper apperantly did some research, he told me the key for the 2001 TD4 couldn't be done by them!

As someone previous has mentioned, take out a key replacement add on with your car insurance - some insurance companies give it for free!
