how much play in drive shafts?

Have irregular Vibration at lower speeds under load and braking, cornering and on straight, slightly worse when on bumpy road. (running El Mondo at mo so no prop vc etc issues!). (Thats another story)
Assumed noise inner front drivers cv as grease was sprayed up side of engine coming from inner boot.
however sound seems to come from rear? maybe resonating through body?
front drive shafts have no play ( when i grab them and pull)
However - both rears have play at diff end. I would say about 1mm, Is this normal? could it be be diff mount?
Is the grease from front cv throwing me off the scent of the noise?
I know that needs sorting anyway.
If i was in uk and not nz where i have to wait 10days for my parts to arrive then i would have sorted cv and gone from there, but would like to address any issues in one go to keep postage costs reasonable!

that drive shaft cv joint ,if its not already ****ed ,it will be very very soon.You might find where the grease is leaking from and get away with replacing the boot and clips if you have to.

Hey guys - sorry to resurrect a (reasonably) old thread, but wondered what the typical amount of play in the rear drive shafts is? Both my near and offside have a little play in them and I'm wondering if this is anything to do with the knocking I'm hearing when going over bumps, etc. (other thread http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-steering-rack-knocking-149993.html)
