P38A HK Audio System gone wonky.

It never rains but it pours as they say.
I fixed the speaker cones on the Woofer unit earlier this year and to do this I had the whole lot out of the PS cubby hole, broke the woofer & Amp unit apart and fixed the speaker cone rings and then put it all back. It has been working fine until the other day when I turned the system on and was greeted by a very low-volume muffled and muddy noise from the Woofer but not a peep out of any of the other speakers.
I tried all the music sources (Radio, CD, cassette) and they were all the same.
I went to the CD carousel and popped it out and put it back. Powered the system back on and it worked fine.
2 days later, same thing again but nothing I did with the CD carousel or giving the are a thump resolved the issue.
Its gone and done it again today and so I pulled the cubby cover off and disconnected/reconnected the main connector on the loom. Problem gone..... Switched it all off and then on again....problem back.
I have no idea how this particular sound system works or how to chase the problem down. When it works it is very, very good quality, but that only "when" it works.
Any of you kind folks got any ideas (other than "burn-it" or "blast it with......").

Can you confirm you have the separate dsp amp in the rear ?

I am afraid that I do not know the layout of the HK components.
There is a big power amp inside the Woofer Box that is bolted across the back of the speakers. Is this the "DSP" amp?

No that's the sub woofer remove the side panel.bdhind it.

It could well be, the rear boot was a swimming pool last year and the source of the water was the plumbing for the sunroof cassette.
Its such a faff taking all the panelling off and many of the trim clips are 1-time use (curse you JLR!).

@biketeacherdave Is the amp going to be located behind this sound-deadening wadding sheet by any chance?
This pic was taken when I had the Sub-Woofer out to fix it and trace and fix the leak from the sunroof cassette while I was there.

Yeah pull it off if it's there you will no it, the p38 was fitted with a high line or low line audio system.
No amp means low line pointing at the head unit. Amp means it's on its way out

Can't they be repaired? might just need a couple of components replacing.

No if the amp is dead it's dead, I spent a long time, effort and money trying to repair mine. And it's my original back ground.
Best thing is to replace with an android unit as I did in mine in the end.

In that case I would put money on corroded connectors, there may also be condensation inside the amp.

Oh dear, sounds fatal.
It is an HK variant sound system and the build spec of the car mentions DSP Europe so I think I may have an amp back there to go find and bake in an oven at Gas Mark 3 for 20 minutes

Not at all. Connector pins can be cleaned and the interior of the amp can be dried out and any corrosion cleaned off with Aeroklene 50 which is also good for the connectors.

Trim clips are available from others rather than JLR ...
