Hello all, hoping someone can shed some light on my defender 110 2.5 turbo. it's a 1987 hard top, not sure if it's the original engine as it has a turners badge on the rocker cover and is in pretty good nick. I had to drive it around 300 miles home when i bought it, the next day i noticed oil up the back door, went under the bonnet and there was oil sprayed against the bulk head behind the rocker cover, the air filter is dripping oil, the pipe up to the turbo, just a lot of oil pretty much all over. i took it in to a local l/r garage and he told me it had blown the head gasket and probably cracked a cylinder aswell, another thinks it's a breather problem, been to a third today who said the rings need replacing but the head gasket was ok as no water was spitting out of the reservoir, there is quite a bit of backpressure from the filler, but the engine starts and runs lovely, no smoking apart from a greyish puff when it starts, and a small puff of black if going up hill so put my foot down a bit. it has plenty of life in it does 70+ on motorway, is more than reasonable on fuel, it's the first decent one i've bought but i think the long run home might have done it. help please!

If it still runs ok i would steam clean the engine off and then start looking for leaks and if it breaths heavley ect ect.

if its any help we must be cloce together may be i can help ( you will need to bring it to me tho ) look on my web site for phone number

regards bell
