Hiya.
ive got to buy the wife another motor soon.
im toying with the idea of a td5 or range rover. got a max of £2500.
i do like the look of the range rover and thinking 2.5 diesel but have heard stories of being under powered??
it will be used for towing, once aweek if that.
can anyone give me any feed back on either motors..
what to look out for on the diff models.
is there any tricks/combinations i can do with the ignition keys to bring up hidden faults??.
cheers Ian.

Going to stick my thoughts in.....I started with a 300tdi auto which is without doubt very agriculural, but in fairness has been a fantastic towing machine as it is an old plodder. With a couple of cows on the back I dont want to pull myself into trouble. I also have a P38 diesel 2.5 auto which has been undergoing a minor repair programme. I love it to bits and always brings a smile to my face when I get it out for a drive. Almost there with the repairs that means it will hopefully get to tow the caravan soon.
This weekend I acquired an off road ready TD5. I am amazed how well it goes and handles even with big tyres and suspension lift. Cant see it being used as a tow car yet but it might. I am thinking that may be a should be considering trying a normal TD5 tosee if I could replace the P38 anda merc 320cdi estate that are my two main cars. If you go for a P38 I would say spend £1500 and the rest on repairs that it may need. May well be the same for a TD5.

will ad my two pence also ....

my yellow defender when it was a 200tdi was okay for everyday use but not excellent at towing , it was okay but quite underpowered , now has a v8 nearly finished fitting but not tested that yet

my TD5 defender is a different kettle of fish when it comes to towing its much better and pulled a 2 ton discovery on an "A" frame with no dramas the only hold back on hills was my foot :)

this might give you an idea on engines ...:)
