Handbrake Problems

Hi,
I have had my Freelander from new (sep 06) and it has recently started to have problems with the nearside rear wheel, the handbrake tends to stick on and the car therefore won't move. Normally it releases itself after a few times of rocking back and forwards but this can cause problems, especially in places like car parks where there is not much space behind/in front of the car.
Any suggestions on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated,

have you had the wheel of to inspect the brakes yet??

Need to remove drums and lubricate the handbrake pivots/brake adjusters,it happened to mine and after taking them off and lubing-no probs since.do a search on here-it has been mentioned before---Dave

it also might be the handbrake cable might be sized hope this helps

Thanks Guys, problem sorted now.. Drove it through some deep water near my house and it cleared the crap from in the handbrake drum and it seems to be working now

If that's all you've done to fix it - it'll possibly seize up solid now!

This happened to me every time the weather gets cold an damp.

The little lever for the handbrake, in the bottom of the brake shoes, gets full of crap and needs stripping, cleaning and lucricating.

I usally have to get this done a couple of times a year. This year I'm going to have then replaced and new springs put in there.

My Freelander is the opposite, the handbrake is crap! I have to be careful where I park on an incline....or it won't be there when I get back....yet it passed it's MOT

Do they get crappier with age or is it's way of telling me to change the brake shoes on the rear?
