Mrs. Dougden drove to Lakeside today and called me to say that the clutch on her FL2 had sunk to the floor and would not come back up. It would also not go into gear.

A bit of research has led me to think that the slave cylinder has gone and that the gearbox will have to come out to replace it, and as it is on 70k miles I suppose I should have a new clutch fitted???

What ars*ehole designer thought it would be a good idea to put a serviceable part like that inside the bell housing so that when it goes wrong, the labour to replace it would be many, many times the cost of the part?

Thought about towing it back to Kent with my FL1 but I have to say that Green Flag were brilliant. Their representative turned up within 20 mins. Transported the car home and are arranging to pick it up and deliver to RCV in East Peckham tomorrow.

Now how do I explain to her that this could cost up to £1k and any thoughts of an Autumn holiday will have to wait?

Easy. You just explain to her that it could cost 1k to sort and any thoughts of an autumn holiday will have to wait.

Oh and that she should have bought a defender ;)

1) Cheers - I never thought of doing that!
2) Not really that practical as we haven't got a Farm or Land rover experience business.

Nice to hear from you though

Repairs now done by my local LR specialist. New complete clutch, slave cyl. and flywheel - Nearly £1100.
However, just for fun I asked a LR main dealer near Maidstone to quote for the same job...........£3400 :hysterically_laughi
