Hi all, I have an 03 Freelander Kalahari TD4 which has just decided it would prefer to be an automatic:eek:... Well in short... from cold the gears are ok but the longer I drive it the tougher the gears get to the point of after 30 mins of city driving they were near impossible to engage and I had to pretty much force it into gear. Friends are telling me I need to remortgage my house to get this fixed, please can anyone help suggest what the problem maybe... I'd like to be a bit clued up before I take it to the garage otherwise I become the stereotypical blonde female to be ripped off!! Would really appreciate any advice:)

yes ,lhs of vehicle remove wheel and plastic cover 3 x 10 mm headed bolts filler toward rear of box ,drain a little further forward but lower ,8mm allen key

my wifes 1800 was the same changed the master cylinder with slave cylinder (all in one ) and now it is a compleatly different car hope this helps

Thanks Guys, trying the oil as we speak but it looks like it could be the Master/slave cylinder. The problem is the mechanic isn't really sure but thinks that's what it is..Is it an expensive job?

If it the master cylinder or slave the problem should be there hot or cold, you have not said how many miles it has done, but the problem is likley to be more clutch plate related. As for cost well shop around but the cheapest you will find is around the £500 mark if it needs a duel mass flywheel as well add another £200 to £300 on to the bill. It could be worth changing the master cylinder as it will be less than £100 and see if it solves the issue.
