Fuel Guage Reading when ignition is off

I did look into this for you but forgot to reply. The rave disk doesn’t mention it in detail. Bit storage that. Using the 2001 rave circuit diagrams English version… I found there’s 4 connections on the fool pump connector. This lead me to connector C0114 on page 107 of 134 in the circuit diagram section. Pin C0114-2 goes from the “unit fool tank” to the instrument pack computer. Pin C0114-1 goes to C1412-1 on the same page, and also shown to do the same thing on page 17 of 134. That looks like an earth connection to me. So the fool level sensor connects directly to the instrument pack computer, which I think it on the rear of the instrument pack.

C0114-1 = to instrument pack computer
C0114-2 = to earth on C1412-1 = fool level earth me thinks
C0114-3 = fool pump earth
C0114-4 = connected to fool pump relay. Replay supplies the unit fool tank on C0114-4 and the fool pump on C0205-2. C0205-1 then goes to earth.

Now this diagram shows a low fool level lamp (search for J117 and you’ll find it on page 108 of 134) but it doesn’t show a fool level needle. So that got me thinking… Page 107 of 134 shows the tachometer J102 (search for J102 to find it). Above this are 2x un-named 1 amp items. I think the fool level needle could be one of these, unless we can find it else where.

The easy way to solve this problem is to get someone with the same year Freelander to measure what we think is the sensor wiring connection on top of his or her fool pump. They should be able to measure a resistance. This should be done at full, middle and low fool levels if possible. Hopefully this will give a different resistance for each level. Then compare this against yours. This will tell you if your fool level sensor is working/reading correctly. Then we could work from there. There’s also an earth connection which we need to check is actually connected to earth. I would hope someone would volunteer to help with this as it seems to be a problem a number of peeps have: fool needle dun’t work. Mines a 2001 (with low fool level lamp too) but I’ll measure it anyway when I try to change me fool filter soon.

i'll dig out my multimeter and check the resistances.
also checking for any earthing issues.

i believe the guage reads correctly but one strange thing...when filling up from empty(on the needle) it only takes circa 50 litres in a 59 litre tank. I neck the fuel so the filler pipe is up to the brim'ish.
