Deep apologies if this is covered anywhere else (I've looked and couldn't find my particular problem).
I'm changing the passenger side front hub/bearing assy on my 1999 TD5 and I thought I'd change the leaking oil seal on the drive shaft while I was at it.
No problem getting it all to bits but for love or money I can't remove the old oil seal.
The rubber middle part of it came out easily and appears to be a separate bit from the surrounds whereas the replacement I have (and all the replacements I can find pics of of t'interweb) seem to be one complete item with a rubber inner seal and metal/rubber surround.
Am I missing something obvious? Should the whole thing come out very easily?
Any tips/ help would be immensely appreciated.
Thank you :)
Giles

Hi Giles,
I've had a look at page 54-10 of RAVE and it's not much help.

This is what they look like inside and out.

Cheers Griff.
I ended up making a tool out of a long bit of copper pipe bent into a long thin 'Z' shape which hooked behind the remains of the seal allowing me to knock it out with a mallet.
Job done :)
New front hubs in, diff oil changed and an oil change and last night I drove from Kent to Devon in what felt like a new truck :)

Let us know how you get on with the replaced seal, just about every seal being made now is incorrect spec, the ID is too small... No clue why but it's a fact that's a pain in the arse.
