Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice. I suspect my 2005 freelander TD4 turbo has gone. Lost power & was spitting out loads of white smoke & found it had lost all its oil.

My question is, is it likely the head gasket has gone as well or possibly the crank breather was blocked & its failed the turbo? Also as an estimate on how much it's going to cost to replace the turbo at the garage? We looked into doing it our self but because the turbo is in such an awkward place on this Land Rover we'd need acces to ramps etc that we don't have.

It's low mileage & been well looked after so I basically want to know if it's worth getting it fixed or it's time to replace.

Thanks in advance.

It'll just be the turbo oil seal that's failed. Don't start the engine again until the turbo has been renewed.
It's about a 3 to 4 hours job and the turbo will be around £200 if you have just the CHRA replaced.

If its lost all its oil, what condition is the engine going to be in once the turbo is repaired?

Are you sure it didn't just lose all its oil and the engine expired?

Good point GG. Lets hope the engine didn't loose power because it was seizing.
