Ok, so we bought our first freelander in Sept 2012 (04 model, HSE, 80,000 miles) one lady owner previous and full service history....so, thinking its was a reasonably well maintained car we took the plunge. Its been a nightmare ever since.
1) engine warning light coming on/off (orange one, left hand of dash display)
its been back to the garage twice with this, no apparent cause for it they reckon?
2) Interior heating was only blowing cold air through the system, back off to the garage, repaired, only to break again 4 weeks later.
3)Excessive amount of smoke coming from exhaust upon start up, which has since calmed but thats probably not a good thing....
4) Discovery that the jack compartment in the boot is filling up with water, a common fault I am led to believe...
5) Yesterday, following half an hour of motorway driving at a not particularly excessive 70mph the engine temp starts erratically jumping up on the needle with any acceleration about 65-70mph, only easing off the accelerator brings temp back down (its sitting in the middle of gauge usually)...wondering if this is what previous appearance of engine warning light can be accredited to, or if theres a whole host of other issues too....
Preparing ourselves for the worst re- potential head gasket issues etc but any extra ideas about possible causes/precautionary steps or advice is very gratefully received until we can get to a mechanic (not easy post crimbo when they are all super busy!)
When oil/water is checked there does not seem to be evidence of water in the oil, radiator does not seem to be loosing water, we have checked liquid/coolant levels so we don't know where best to place our suspicions?
All of these issues are common freelander problems i'm led to believe but as I mentioned, any advice or those with similar experience are all welcomed....I'm at my wits end with it, the dealer doesn't want to know as its twelve weeks since we got the car and a months warranty is all they offer and I'd like to have as much information as possible so we know what we are potentially dealing with.
Thanks in advance
