Hi guys,
just wanted to say hello to everyone as I am new to the forum but have been on site for many months gleening little snippits of information as and when i needed it.
Just returned from a 3 year stint in sunny Oz. Got my first 4x4 there, an X Trail. Returned to UK and still wanted a small 4x4 so got a freelander td4 at a good price that was running crap below 2000rpm. Fitted a synergy and piersburg MAF and all sorted.
I love driving it but it has a problem. The problem that I am having is the dreaded black smoke under acceleration. I have uprated to DPH silicone hoses and given the intake air a little clean (might need a new one, how do you test if its working). When I switch the synergy box maps on ,it smokes more so i'm guessing that it is an air problem. Does anyone know what route to take next and in what order of likely culprits. Need it sorting as I am getting a little embarresed leaving a smoke trail behind me. !!
