I recently drove the wife's Freelander 2 and noticed that there was a bad vibration / wobble when braking from around 50mph. I checked brakes and noticed that there rear disks / pads were badly worn. I replaced both today but after test drive the vibration is still there. I did notice that the rubber around the piston on the calliper on the (rear passenger) has perished. Could this be causing the vibration? The Freelander had the tracking done and balancing done a couple of weeks ago. Also after doing this work I've noticed that the handbrake is know worse than before I started. Is the handbrake a separate brake?

Any help appreciated

Yes the handbrake is shoes on the inside of the rear discs

Did you replace the handbrake shoes at the same time as the new discs??

No i'll have to get some thanks for tip. Is it straight forward to do?

Just rough up the shoe surface with sandpaper to aid bedding in to the new discs. Unless they are really scored and worn.

Pads and discs are perfect with loads left in them

Good pad an disc condition, doesn't guarantee the discs are straight. Often rust builds up behind the disc, which throws the disc out of true. This will be the cause of the judder in most cases ;)
