hi new to the forum bought a Freelander 2004 TD4 Auto Sport MPG with 96k on the clock, just gave it a full service

ERG bypass
chemical cleaned the manifold for inch thick in gunk no joke
new fuel filter
new oil filter
new air filter
new crank case filter and seals
oil change
water flush
new transmission fluid
new pollen filter

after doing all this i thought the MPG would improve boy i was wrong so far the results are below from street driving and not with a heavy foot either.

week 1
10 LITRES of fuel
55.8 MILES
25.37MPG

week 2
10 LITRES of fuel
64.1 MILES
29.14MPG

i have a 400bhp Rx7 and it uses less fuel :O any one know what else i can try? going to remove the MAF and see if improves or see if re-map might help. any other ideas?

thanks Lee

i've got the same motor as you and having done everything you have i am now getting 28 mpg around town and 36ish on fast road/motorway, this is measured on a tank to tank basis filled to the brim. if you bear in mind that the book figures are only 25mpg around town were doing better than lr/bmw predicted!!

thats good then i thought the average mpg would be 40mpg, also you have the same car spec as me when you have it in 4th is your transmission quite loud like you can hear the driveshaft spinning?

noisy VCU support bearings perhaps??

Have just inherited the 2003 td4 auto, hasnt been serviced for 4 years and 30k ( just got the bits to do it ) yet have been getting 26 local trips 8 miles in to town the 8 back but now I am using it 40 miles each way on dual carrigeway and getting 35 ish over the last 5 tanks. changed the air filter yesterday. suprised it was running at all

Just got back from Scotland. Brimmed tank, one click, drove 90 miles, nearly all flat motorway, 65-70 to pick up mate, brimmed tank, one click, 9.9l !!!!
Then did 1200 mles of driving to Wester Ross and back, loaded with camping gear, large mate, slightly smaller me and dog. I do like to crack on and pass stuff NOT driving at the speed limit ie 45 in a 60, my pet hate. Overall for the trip 37.8mpg, Mate well impressed.
ps especially as he was payng half the fuel.
