Ive had my freelander 2 for ten days. Suddenly without warning the sat nav doesn't work. When I try to boot it I get a message saying - DVD CHECKING IN PROCESS and this just stays like that.

I have removed the disc and it's not scratched however there is a groove worn into the label side the info side is perfect. Any ideas ?

To check if the head unit is still working put an ordinary CD in and let it play, then retry the nav cd, mine stopped a while back after about 2 weeks it restarted ok.

Dont put audio cd's into your MMM. Just clean the DVD as you would an ordinary dvd, then put it back in.

Hopefully its just grease on the read side.

Thanks I have already done this without success. Would it be worth trying a DVD cleaning disc ?. The DVD unit seems to be running. Its strange how it just seemed to stop. I have also tried the other country discs which have never been used but they won't load either same message appears!

Looks like the DVD under the seat is dead. The phone and radio still work but no sat nav. Landrover quoted £2000+ +vat for replacment. Ive had a look inside and the lazer is not firing right and one of the plastic connecting strips between the DVD gubings and the circuit board fell apart in my hand. Not exactly £2500 worth of quality there !

Next week when I get time the units going to a place the dealer recommnded to see if they can fit a new strip and lazer assembly. God only knows what thats going to cost. The only other option isd to try and find a second hand scrap unit.

The unit was sent off for repair and returned they couldn't fix the wiring between the DVD drive and the circuit board. It's now gone to a friend who works for an electronics repair company he think he might be able to cobble a repair. He seems to think this might be the cause of all the issues.
