Hello Everyone, a complete newbie here!! I'm looking for advice. I am looking at buying a freelander 1 .8 Serengeti 3dr 03-plate and wondered what peoples thoughts on it were? We've always had defenders on the farm but I'm looking to replace my car. What's the mpg, insurance, tax like? is it good in snow/icy conditions as at the moment my car will not move with the least bit of snow. looking forward to reading all your comments. Thank you for looking.

I've got a petrol 5dr Serengeti and love it. It does everything a family car should, it won't win any land speed records but mine gets at worst 26 mpg, and 29 at best. I think the price difference between diesel and petrol models makes a TD4 only viable if you're doing quite a few miles, or if you need to extra torque of the deisel motor. Tax is only £260 a year

yes get a discovery and spend your time fixing leaks water and oil and you never pass a petrol station in one ..
if its freelander you want the go for a td4

thats interesting, coz my disco dont use petrol and does 36 to the gall on doozil. hows yo TD4 looking now?

Can you buy an 03 Discovery for what you would spend on an 03 Freelander? I'm sure that you wouldn't be able to!

With a 1.8, check to see if the head gasket has been replaced; I think I get about 25 mpg out of mine but am not really sure! Insurance is cheap for me but I'm coming up to me half century birthday!

Spend a while reading this excellent forum and you will find out what issues Freelander owners have with their cars!
