fitting an alpine cde-9880r stereo to a 2000 freelander, what cable does what ?

Hello,

Have got the factory fitted stereo out and looking to fit a an alpine cde-9880r in its place, it's a long shot has anyone done this specifically before?

I've done a search of the forums but not found any info on stereo wiring, does anyone have an idiots guide to what cable/ lead does what in the back of the 2000 freelander stereo?

I've worked out the arial lead and that's it! I want to be sure before I start wiring the battery lead to the speaker socket etc!

large plug does all the speakers and power, small plug(brown maybe) sends the info to the clock in the dash, so can be disregarded.

Adapters can be had off ebay for less than a fiver save all the hassle. Until you try to get all the wiring back in the hole!

If that looks like the plugs you have my 2001 had the Bmw style round plug. Think i got it from them as well.

halfords sell adapters as well but i am convinced the polarity of the front speakers was swopped on mine.

If you get it from halfrauds, reserve on-line first! Price reserved on-line for collection in store £4.99, price in-store £16.99! Reason? I asked today, even the staff don't know!

SORTED!

When I unplugged the cables from the original stereo to take a picture for ordering the adapter I spotted that my Alpine stereo will plug straight in!

This is the original landy unit;



- Top row of plugs just ignore (assume they go the original CD multichanger and dashboard display)
- The middle and lower of plugs are power/ speakers etc and they plug straight in
- The arial plug (on the left of the picture) looks to be the wrong type but the Landy unit had an adapter already on it, I wipped this off and it fitted to the Alpine fine
- The green/ yellow/ copper cables still attatched are for the stalk/ steering wheel controls. Unplug and ignore them too.

And that's that! easy peasey!

One thing to remember is to take your CD's out of the multichanger first, not try and do it after and then have to unplug and replug everything (d'oh).

yes indeed, was quite a squeeze! That's a whole lot of wires behind there!

Lucky you, mine had the BMW round connector, spoiled the 1/2hr I had free to fit mine. Glad its all sorted tho, I found the speakers are actually not too bad when given a decent head unit!
