Fitting a kickdown cable to V8 autobox

I have a Discovery 1 (1997) auto, which had a 3.9 petrol V8, but recently had the V8 replaced with a 300 tdi (the V8 was a bute but insanely expensive to fire up).

The issue is.. the original kickdown cable coming from the existing auto gearbox is now too short and the cable needs replacing.

Do I need to remove the entire gearbox to replace the cable?
Is the standard (longer) 300 tdi cable what I need to use instead?

For now I have fashioned an extension plate from flattened copper pipe, to attach the cable to the bracket on the engine, but a proper cable fit is the aim.

Anyone tackled this?

i have no idea what it looks like but you can buy diy cable kits on ebay, not that expensive. They are normally made for motorbike repair etc comes with fittings and sleeves etc to make it up to whatever length, also sure they do different thicknesses

You need to take the sump off to change the kickdown. Its a fiddly job with 2 people. Nigh on impossible on your own and much easier if the floor is out and ypu have easy access to the top where the cable goes through and the bottom where it hooks around the mechanism

On my 97 V8, it's on the throttle body.

I take it U don’t intended tho reuse the V8 gearbox, as that won‘t work with the slow rev Tdi engine hopefully something U already know.

So onward, I would have thought that the Tdi auto gearbox would still have kick down cable attached, if not, then the one you require a STC1583 (which may have been superseded) kick down cable for the Tdi auto box.
As already mentioned the cable attachment is inside the box, so the best of luck with that.

Even the Haynes manual avoids the cable replacement, stating contact an LR service dept.
DIY ? Then it appears to me… U will need a comprehensive workshop on the gearbox showing how to replace the cable.
