After experiencing a loud thud at the rear when changing from 1st to 2nd I did some research and discovered it was probably the rear diff center mount.

To check I jacked up the rear and turned one of the rear wheels, as the diff started to work I could see the whole unit move about 3 inches. I ordered a new mount from rutts 4x4 on eBay for about a tenner.

Fitted it today. Took about 45 minutes and was pretty straight forward. I simply removed the bolts holding the center mount and the 2 bolts from the drivers side mount. Next I managed to maneuver the diff so I could get the mount out. It was totally shot and the rubber was basicly non existent. Fitting was simply the opposite.

Now my car feels tighter when accelerating and the noise has gone :D A job that any amateur with a socket set can try.

Next up I'm changing the prop shaft bearings.

Thanks to Hippo for his how to guide.
