I have a coffee machine that i was chucking out then i had the brain wave to wack it in the van for work and after looking at inverters led me to think why dont commercial vehicles (at least) have a power take of from the engine so it can be used like a genarator the engine in the freelander is bigger than your average genarator, how easy would this be to do even if only for 110 power tools?

and as for the krupps coffee machine any1 know where i can get a cheap 1500w min invertor from, and how easy it would be to fit as a permanent part via a cut out switch etc?

My best guess on the commercial vehicles question is that they don't have that big an alternator, the engine is there to provide motive force, not generate leccy.

A gennie just drives the coils round to make leccy for you, it does it quite economically, using a big motive power engine to do the same would be a waste of fuel. :)

Dunno about the invertor, Halfords were flogging them, but I've never looked into the prices of them so.... Sorry

My old sprinter had a pto which powered a 110v gen and a compressor, big enough to power jack hammer etc and the gen had no problem with big drills , think it was an atlas copco system , pain to get pto to engage
