Hi Can anyone advise,my 03 Freelander door open warning light is flashing even when all doors are secure,We reckon its the drivers side rear which is causing the problem, yesterday the window mech failed.I can deal with that but not sure about the door light.Any help much appreciated.

IIRC there is a micro switch within the door latch mechanism to operate the door open light which has probably failed - does your interior light also stay on?

is the microswitch in all the doors is there a way of checking to see which 1 has failed as my car does the same cheers

The switchs are in the lock mechanism and not easy to get too. I think the wire to the switch is purple and white(through the switch to earth ), if you take the door cards off you can check with a multimeter which one isnt working. The tailgate switch wire is black and orange

hi all

i have exactly the same probem

I have a 2002 freelander - yesterday upon starting i noticed the door open warning light was on (along with the interior lights), all the doors were closed and rear window closed. I started to drive and the light and interior lights starting blinking randomly, almost along with bumps in the road, then they just stayed on. I messed around with the doors, tail window, individual latch mechanisms, and nothing helps. I removed the fuse for the interior light so i could lock up but when i did that the key in ignition warning beep went on and would not go off. However, that wont help anyway because at certain times the door warning light randomly blinks in a fast tempo which last night cause the alarm to go off without the doors actually opening. today it seemed ok for a little while and is now in a random on/off/blinking state. so right now im stuck with driving with blinking interior lights and not being able to lock. Im hoping its a cheap relay i can fix myself and not part of the actual latch or lock mechanism.

i have also recently replaced one of the door locks and also disconnected all the othersa and the problem still happens.

is there a control unit that could be at fault or is it possibly a wire shorting? i stange thing is that is fine sitting on the drive then for no apparent reason it will come on thus sounding the alarm.

going out of my brain and on the virg of selling so any advice would be cool.

With intermittent faults like this, one way of approaching the problem is to try and simulate the cause, i.e. you know that vibration can activate the door open warning light. So you need to make the CCU ( Central Control Unit) think that all doors are shut but be able to agitate the lock / internal door cable.
First step is to get to a state where the door open warning light is off with all doors closed. Step two is to start with the drivers door. With it open, trip the lock with a shaft of a screw driver. The door open light should go out. If not try agitating the wiring in the harness between door and pillar (you may need to remove the door card to gain access). If the light is still on, try moving the cabling inside the door, or wiggle the plug connecting the cable to the lock. If no fault is found, try tapping the door frame next to the lock in case the lock micro switch is faulty. When you have finished checking that door, RELEASE THE LOCK BY PULLING THE DOOR OPEN HANDLE AND PULLING THE SCREWDRIVER BLADE OUT WARDS. Failure to do this will result in lock damage if you try and shut the door! Repeat this check on all doors. Don't forget the switch under the bonnet. Good Luck - Eric.

Was the solution ever found to this problem. I have the same issue. Interior light coming when driving. alarm going off in the middle of the night. I've adjusted strikers on drivers door and rear door drivers side. seemed to fix for one journey only. If I bring the car for diagnostics will they identify the faulty door? Does the bonnet switch act the same way as a door switch?
