Diesel heater install.

Got an Eberspacher diesel heater. Trying to find a spot to install it where it can be left permanently. Its 110 TD5 2004 so limited space both under the passenger and drivers seat. Without removing my cubby box just wondering if anyone knows how much space there is between the underside of the metal cover and gearbox? Maybe a mod to the cubby box and an adaption to the cover plate might make enough room for it.

Anyone done similar?

Was also considering a mod to the floor under the second row seats?

Any collective thoughts?

I have looked at just replacing the top plate for winter use & fixing a heater to it. Replace the whole lot for summer space.

That may well do the trick. Going to try it with a possible mod to my custom made cubby box.

Box under rear wheel arch, further back would be quiet as well, plenty of heat from them so no problem with putting it out of the way

MUD UK do a box that fits under cubby box to fit diesel heaters.

I want to do this but It worried that when wading it will fill with water. Anyone got any alternatives? I’m actually thinking of fitting it outside in a removable waterproof box that sits on the tow bar and then making the numberplater flap up with a sealable joint for the pipe. Then I can remove the thing when I don’t want it, move it outside to reduce noise and not have an issue with water. I could also pipe it off to the tent when a few of us are away. Also, diesel can sit in the box and I don’t need to tee into my fuel system & can run on red diesel.

Any thoughts?

I run the lorry heater on it's own red diesel. No problems there. Use a bike water bottle(1.5litres)with a bulkhead pipe fitting on it. Close bottle lid & put bung in & can remove for security.

I have seen these fitted into tool boxes for portable heat. Just make sure you vent the exhaust gases.

Do they have to me mounted with the inlet and exhaust at the bottom or can they be laid on their side and vent horizontally? Was looking at a Chinese copy one from eBay...

I have always fitted the 3 with inlet/exhust on the bottom. Also try to keep level.
Do not allow air to be pushed through the heater as this will affect the sensor inside.

can you put a fitting into the inlet/exhust that you can bung up when not in use or wading?

Plenty of room above the rear wheel to mount the heater. As said above, what to do if wading and how to keep out the normal day to day rain and muck. It needs to go into its own sealed box, problem here is general access when building the thing. Should the air-in/exhaust out be piped to a higher level? Should I cut access from inside the vehicle as in top down from the rear seat box? or make a demountable box for servicing? How about the heated air in/out? Supply air from inside the vehicle so it re-heats? Heated air ducted from the outlet via a duct to several positions possible in the included panel under the 2nd row seats? Try Banggood for a cheap version, Chinese! The genuine Eberspacher TD5 filler adapter that fits in the fuel filler neck seems crazy money for what it is, might make one as well. Well worth a T branch to an external port to plug in a hose to heat a tent or someone else's tent vehicle.

Spent the afternoon making a mock up of the mounting box for the heater. First go using Correx sheet. Fits in the space under the seat box/wheel arch, side access point trial to, needs to be slightly bigger to get the unit through for installing, next is working out best route for the air intake and heated air to cab route. Bottom corner nearest the tyre is slightly closer than I want so might trim off a 45degree slope.
