:) Hi Folks

Wallbanger hear

Hears a question for those who know. Catalitic exhaust thing;y majig;ys, I;ve just been told that a cat in your exhaust on a deisel is a waste of time as it dos;nt do anything like it does on a petrol engine. Its also been suggested that it slows the engines acceleration becouse the exhaust gases are held up by the cat.

Bottom line:
I've got a 300tdi discovery
1. Have I got a cat.
2. Do I need a cat.
3. Will not having a cat inprove performance (of the car that is).:D
4. Will getting rid of this cat effect the MOT.
And finaly
5. If I,ve got one and dont need one whats the cheepest way of getting rid of it.
P.S. wheres the bl.......dy spell checker on this thing!!!!!!

Possibly - depends which year, easiest way is to get underneath and have a look!
2. Do I need a cat.
No
3. Will not having a cat inprove performance (of the car that is).:D
Yes, a little
4. Will getting rid of this cat effect the MOT.
No - not required / tested on doozels
And finaly
5. If I,ve got one and dont need one whats the cheepest way of getting rid of it.
cut it out and weld in a straight section of pipe in its place!
P.S. wheres the bl.......dy spell checker on this thing!!!!!!
aint one
:)

yes, performance and mpg wise, the cat is a waste of time..

i too would also like to know, if it is removed from say a 94 t0 96 tdi, will it have to be put back on for the mot ????

not required on doozels... i see...

i had a feeling it was on petrol..

not so on diesels you say??

Bl...dy hell folks that was quick are you all sitting there bored with the crap on tv like me ?
its looking good so far.
If I get rid of my cat and my EGR thing and fit a chip, and fit a carlos fandango air filter the old beast should in future do 0 to 60 in only 5 minutes. Great improvment.
Do you think Land Rover should give us all a rebat on the bits we dont need?,
And is there any think else I can get rid of, just loosing the waight,s got to be a benefit.

don't bother with a boy-racer air filter - they're just for posers and may well lead to premature engine wear.
egr blanking is first priority.

right okay thanks so I wonder why the fuel enconmy is lower on 200tdi then 300tdi ??? I do about 30 miles to a gallon at max of 60 mph and never revs higher then 3000rpm.
