Hi All
Matt from Tonbridge.
Recently bought my Defender 90 XS and looking to replace the wheels currently 16” Sawtooth’s

Can anyone advise the best after market Sawtooth 18” wheels / supplier in the UK to get them from?

Also looking to go for Goodrich All Terrain but not sure if to go for 265 65 18 or 285 65 18?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to enjoying the forum etc

Matt

I'm a steel (Wolf) wheel man here as I go off road and think that the addition of 'pretty' alloy wheels is slightly transgenderification, especially if you fitt off road tyres.
Post pictrures, we all like pictures here...

Bigger wheels might put more stress on the transmission and you will notice a drop in overall performance, as the demand will be for more torque. Oh, and a personal opinion, I think big blingy wheels look krap :D

I would agree with this, ^^

I ran 35x12.5x15, (the correct way to get bigger wheels it to get smaller rims and larger rubber) and there was a noticeable decrease in performance both in terms of acceleration and top speed. If you increase the the wheel diameter you will need to decrease the tyre profile to ensure the overall rolling radius is the same so performance is not altered. There is nothing wrong with 16" rims and you can get lots of different designs and widths if you are not happy with your current ones without altering any of the handling/performance characteristics of your defender.

A deliberately extreme example but the below shows what I am referring to in terms of the overall size of the wheel and tyre combination being the same. One is outrageously foolish in every way, one is correct and suitable for a defender.
