Hi all,

This evening I was stuck in a traffic jam for quite a long time (ambient temperature about 5 degrees). I noticed that the cooling fan kicked in a couple of times. The temperature gauge didn't go above normal and there were no strange noises or anything at all.

Later whilst driving back home again (ambient temp around 4 degrees), I'm not sure whether it was me just being extra alert but I noticed that it came on once again and again, the temp gauge hadn't gone above the mid point and there was nothing untoward happening.

My question is - should I be concerned that with the low ambient temperature, my freelander can still get so warm as to require the cooling fan to kick in or, as the temperature gauge didn't go above normal is this just the signs of a functional cooling system doing it's job?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Andy.

The stat starts to open at 82 degrees and int fully open until 102 degrees. On mine my hawkeye ses the fans come on at 109 degrees and go off at 106 degrees. Rave says on at 105 and off at 102. Not much help to you but they do like running hotter than other engines. Temp guage don't move from horizontal if it gets hot enough for the fans to come on. This was all measured at 20 degrees air temp.

Thanks for that - I checked the coolant level this morning and everything was fine - no loss at all and there were no issues at all today so perhaps it was just me being a bit paranoid ;-)

Andy.
