I am after some advice. Not long bought a Freelander 2004 TD4. It seems after losing power, some black smoke and the engine reving itself that the turbo has gone. I cant afford to scrap it so have to repair it, as cheaply as possible!

Is this a difficult job? It seems the turbo is in quite a difficult place. I have been told you can reach it from above but cant see how this would be possible and yet there seems to be so much in the way from underneath too.

Any ideas on the cost of a turbo? one place has quoted me £700 (new) another £165 (reconditioned) That seems to be a huge difference.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi , and :welcome2: again another td4 owners nightmare ! if mine blows it would have to go to durham 4x4 who did my mates and cost 1,200  you will have to find in your local area a garage/supplier you can trust , keep us informed of how you get on :)

Yes after a good look I think this is the only sensible conclusion. After a good look I have decided this goes way beyond my abilities. So its off into the garage next week.

Thanks
