Buying a second hand FL2

Hi all,

after many test drives, I've decided to purchase a 3-5 year old Freelander 2 TD4 2.2L 4WD/manual/diesel GS/XS/HSE with (hopefully) low mileage (i.e. 50000 or less).

I've heard tales that FL2's had some reliability issues which were only ironed out relatively recently, and that is a bit of a concern to me. Are there any models/years to be wary of? and what should I watch out for when I start to look at vehicles to buy? Any things that particularly fail on these? and where will the main additional expenses come from?

Any advice for this 4x4 newbie would be appreciated.
