Hi, I managed to break the aerial today on a 3dr freelander.

The "whip" itself screws into the mount but it snapped leaving the threaded part in the mount.

So, can this mount be bought anywhere and how does one get access to change it?

Thanks

Steve

The access on a 5 door is behind the main interior light. This is removed on early models by removing two screws, later model are held in by spring clips and the light unit is simply pulled out from the head lining. One nut holds the mount and the aerial is easily replaced.
Hope this enables your receipt of weather reports!

The base is available seperately from the whip, without satnav, part number is XUC100832, about £9.08, with sat nav, part number XUC000030, about £32.61. My prices are a bit out of date though. Looks like the cables plug in to the mount, so no problem to change the mount, just remove internal lamp assembly from roof.

Hope this helps.

Thank-you all, new mount ordered, not got the "whip" bit yet but may aquire one of a transit van or something from work.

Haynes manual suggests taking all the roof lining out for the 3dr.......... the interior light isnt directly under the mount but is that the way in to get the screw?

Steve

Not looked at a 3 door roof so can't comment, but on the 5 door it is directly above the front interior lamp and so very easy access. The roof lining isn't rigid, so perhaps on yours, going through the lamp aperture you could pull the lining down a bit to gain access? The lamp can't be that far away from the antenna mount?

I had a similar issue after a trip to Longleat, unfortunately I had to remove the liner to get any sort of purchase on the nut.

I got a new base from flea-bay and installed it this morning.

Took out the interior light (cover, 2 screws and then unclip) and then the 2 sunroof panels and middle support. Peeled back the rubber trim from the sunroof and then pulled down on the roof lining to gain access.

There was a white box on a black bracket blocking the access to the aerial retaining nut (what is this BTW?). Removed that and managed to get a long 8mm socket onto the aerial base.

Job done.

Hi Tomo1971,

I did exactly the same on our 3 door model! You don't have to remove the headlining to replace the mount. Access can be made through the interior light! Remove the plastic glass, remove the two bolts that hold in the interior light assembly and that allows you to access the single bolt that attaches the mount & cable to the Freelander roof. It is slightly offset, so you've need either a flexible extension bar or a universal joint in you socket set to remove the single nut. It's a little fiddly, but much easier and quicker than removing the headlining!

hiya guys n gals, just brought a freelander (5 door kalahari model 03) with a snapped mast, access was dead easy, no screws, just 4 clip springs, prized whole unit out, an just 8mm nut, short extension bar n ratchet, and unless ya got hands like snow shovels access was brill, job done cricket reception brill :) all under 10 mins, HONEST!!!!:D
