morning all,
Brake light switch failed on my 2005 freelanser 1 TD4 got the old one out and though I have tried- yesterday afternoon I could not get the new one to fit I examined the new switch and old one they look alike exeept the new ones plunger is about half an inch longer than the old one, when you compress the new switchs plunger it is about just under a 1/4 of an inch longer part no on side of new switch is XKB100170 on the old switch its XKB000010 would I be right in thinking I have been sent a non L/R part and I will have to get another one?

Switch pluger is on a ratchet and when fitted to the pedal mounting and then brake pedal released it will ratchet to the correct length. Hold brake pedal down while fitting and then let go !!

old one does not pull out?? friend tried as well
I will try fitting again, one thing a guy from landrover supplies reckons i should have a switch number XKB000010 but it was superseded by XKB500120 with wiring plug adaptor ymQ503280 Have you ever heard of this?

XKB100170 should fit. The plonger adjust itself when is presed by the pedal.

Don’t compress the plonger by hand, it will be too short.
If you done that, on the old one take a clamp, or bench vice, to pull it out.
Then you can try on the new one.

XKB500120, is a total different switch, need a cable, turned on the right.
