Got 18" road wheels on my 4.6 at the mo. Don't really rate the tyres much, not for my use anyhow. Want to fit some aggressive AT's or mild MT's to it. But not a lot of 18" options.

I have found some nice steel modular 17" rim that I'd like to try and there are choices of 17 off road tyres. But I'm not wanting to trim or bust up the Range Rover. So does anyone know what size tyre will fit without doing any mods or body damage?

The stock 255/55R18's actually rub the inner arch above the chassis rail at the back now, despite being 100% factory... although the 17" rims will have a slightly different offset. So I think this won't be an issue.

Stock tyre is 29" tall pretty much. I like the sound of these two sizes:

245/70R17 = 30.5" tall --- which I'm sure will fit no probs
or
265/70R17 = 31.61" tall ---I think this size would look, but it's wide and tall. Anyone running this without issues?

p38 is on air, so needs to work in all ride heights, including motorway and access.

Thanks.

If standard tyres are rubbing the lock stops need adjusting.
It's only the rear wheels that rub, under compression. I don't have a picture online of it, but essentially when the suspension is compressed like this, the top inner edge of the tyre has rubbed the inner arch/liner a bit. Nothing major, but obviously a wider tyre on a stock rim/offset would rub more.

Bugger, just had look and can't see the 17" rims anymore :( no longer listed were I had found them... only 15 or 16's now!

Ummm need to have a think. Although it's be nice to know what size tyre, as in height/width can be fitted.

Been there and got the T-Shirt, I'm afraid. My 2001 4.0 tended to swoop around on cats' eyes, grooves left by trucks, ridges in the tarmac etc. Several checks later, and a set of poly bushes, but she still wandered. Then someone said it's the 18" wheels that cause the problem. Reluctant to believe it but bought a set on the bay to try. Magic! Car is now the dream machine it is supposed to be. My informant said anything over 16" can cause problems - and the bigger the wheel, the bigger the problem.
