I've decided on BFG ATs for my freelander.

The worn out road tyres fitted at the mo are 215/65R16

I've had a look on the BFG web site and they only do 215/70

2 questions.

Will they fit OK .

Do all BFG tyres only have the white letters on one side. (IMHO the white letters showing looks a bit 'knobby')

Hi,

Yes, they will fit no problem.

Only one little thing - your speedo will read a little bit slow - by 2mph - as the circumference is 3% bigger - so at indicated 70mph you will be doing 72mph.

Speedos are usually set low as a matter of course - so possibly a little bit bigger a tyre will make it more accurate than standard - mine did!

Best advice is to check the difference using a Sat-Nav.

Sorry haven't a clue about the lettering. Someone who has a clue will be along soon.

Cheers,

Singvogel.

Thanks for that, As theyre only a little bigger I didn't think it would make too much difference.
Good tip about the sat nav.
I've had BFGs on 2 discos and the white lettering was only on one side

interesting point with the sat nav, my speedo in general is 3-4mph slower than the sat nav, but does the sat nav take any incline in to count? for eg if you imagine a right angel triangle and mark along the bottom horizontal A to B and keep the vertical as A top to bottom then measure A to B, And the top of A to B, the second will be longer ( like 3,4,5, method for checking sq) but the distance travelled on the horizontal A to B is the same - so will tha sat nav account for this when working out the speed?

ps im sure theres a clever maths explination for this but i dont know it..

also im running standard steel freebie wheels and kumo adventure tyres which id have thought is what the speedo would be set to?

Yes - without going into the maths of it - the Sat-Nav speed is pretty accurate - but only on the level - it can't take into account the rate of climb or descent.

Sat navs know where you are to within a few metres.
There are 3 or 4 beaming info at you at any one time from different directions, they're not all overhead looking down at you. The unit works out where you are in relation to these against time. So it will make little or no difference up or down hills. Next time you're out look at the speed on the sat nav and it won't change if you go uphill, downhill or round a corner.

Back on topic.
I phoned several suppliers today and it would seem that there is a world shortage of BFGs in 215/70. They said they don't know when they're coming in.
I may have to settle for Grabber ATs

Didn't mean to take you off topic - but thanks for that - I had overlooked the fact that we receive multiple sat signals.

As I said there's a world shortage of BFGs, my supplier got back to me and there's a 6 week and maybe 2 month delay expected.
So I went for the new General Grabber ATs, must admit the road noise hacking it back on the motorway was down a lot on the worn road tyres that were on there. 30 quid a corner cheaper too.:)
Need to try them in the mud now, very complex tread pattern, I think they'll release mud from the tread easily.
