freelander 1 series diesel engine cam belts, i know i have to change both but do u just buy the belts or do u need the kit,

Only the L series diesel has cam belts. The later tdi M47 uses a chain than should last the life of the engine!! The L series has a tensioner that could do with changing with the belts ;)

i know that but there seems to be different size belts for same engine and kit costs a lot more than just belts, now never fitted a kit before on other cars when changeing belts, just wundering if neccessary

Personally I always change the idler pulley, tensioner pulley at the same time and the water pump if it's cam belt driven!! There is nothing worse than doing the belt only to find out that something that could have been changed with the belt fails a few months later as the belt will need changing again!! It's false economy.

so i buy the kit for the front and just the belt at the back, now where is the best place to purchase them, and it seems there are 2 different size cam belts for the same engine, i think one has 78 teeth the other 112
