This is NOT a practical cost-effective proposition.

The update discs cost well over £100 and are only updated every couple of years.

Coupled to the fact that the LR Becker has a small info strip and not a map display, means that IMHO an update to your machine is waste of effort / money / time.

I have one in my HSE - I didn't want it and asked if it could be deleted from the specification when I ordered the car new back in 2004 - I couldn't.:(

If you must have newer discs - there are a few pirate copies on eBay - or go to the Nav-Tec web-site and put in details of your vehicle and up will come all the info you need.

I upgraded once and never again.

For less money you can get a very good Garmin for example including the cost of lifetime updates which are 4 times a year.

Ahh seems like a waste to be honest i already have a garmin so ill stick with that. I didnt realise they would be so expensive to update the lr system.
Thanks for the advice ;)

Yes it's a shame, as its a good radio - but out-dated first generation Sat-Nav system.

I've hung on to the unit as it runs the 6 CD changer under the seat, plus it has short -wave which is greatly overlooked by most folks - but on long European journeys I get the BBC World Service with no probs. The traffic news system works well in every country too.

Having said that the BBC are reducing the frequencies all the time, and concentrating on the wonderful DAB system.

Almost everyone these days is concerned with high power or clarity of the sound. I want that too, but it's a fat lot of good if what you want is the news in English as you drive down an Italian Autostrada.

I'd like to have Steve Wright in the afternoon in Greece please.

Anyone know how to get Radio 2 on a car radio further away than Calais?

Have I missed some new technology which does this?

Cheers,
Singvogel.
