axle ratio's

is the standard ratio in a salisbury axle series 3 the same as normal axle series 3, might sound a daft question but going to start restoring my recently purchased carawagon nearer the summer and i know that i am missing two rear brake drums and i beleive that they are 12", and i was going to swap the salisbury axle for a normal one.

the diff ratios are the same but the spring spacing is different, on a series 3 lwb the springs sit outside the chassis where as a swb they sit under the chassis, i have a spare series 3 Salisbury axle that just needs some bearings putting in it (yours for £20 if you collect it) also a rover diff is shorter than a Salisbury one so you would need a longer prop shaft

The only sailsbury axle on a series that is different is a stage on v8 3:5 ratio and all standerd 109 axles are 4:7

i think the salisbury axle is ok but just missing the drums for it, are they a bit like the proverbial rocking horse do da

if you had my axle off of me you could swap all the brakes over and have normal 109" brakes saving yourself a load of hassle and money

had a look today and seems i goofed, its the front axle thats missing the drums, now am i right in thinking that these were 12" as well but this axle is a normal rover axle not salisbury, so me thinks that i can swap the front axle for one off a swb with the smaller brakes, its got a servo on so i would think they shoud be ok

try brakes international (parts place i know of ) if they have a pair of mk3 cortina drums in stock theyve gorra ave sailsbury axle drums for a series

All lwb drums are mostly 11"x2" apart from stage one v8,s an six cylinder models which are 11"x3"

Crap! I've just thrown an axle away that had the lwb brakes on,if you'd have posted a week earlier you could have had it.
You can get the drums from paddocks that's where I got mine.

funny you should mention the LWB front axle...i just so happen to have one of them too lol and a pedal box with a servo (off the same vehicle)

just get the drums ffs they aint rare,saves swappin a fookin axle and putting a single leading edge brake setup on the front of it if you do.Its a twin leading edge on a lwb for a reason
Oh and you,ll find there 11" drums,12"ish is OD:doh:
