Hi everyone,

I'm looking forward to purchase a 2013+ Discovery 4 SDV6 and I have a question regarding auxiliary heating. I want this option since we have plenty of months of cold days through the year and we will have a newborn next year.

I am looking to purchase a used low mileage car (around 50,000 kms or so) but when I select auxiliary heating there aren't so many of them with this option. Buying without auxiliay heating would offer me a much better variety of cars to choose from.

My question is: IF I buy a car without auxiliary heating and fit a remote starter, is it ok for the car to run for 15 minutes or so in the morning without actually moving until the cabin heats and windows defrost ?

or should I go for one factory fitted with an auxiliary heater for the health of the engine.

Thank you

Hi and welcome!
Not too much about D3/4 on here, Disco3.co.uk is a good site.
But about your question, most manufactures say "start engine and drive", its not always a good idea to leave a car idling when its first started in the cold, you can get premature engine wear and in a D3/4 thats expensive! Hence the reason for aux heaters! Many Discos here, Estonia, have them.
Alternative would be a plug in electric heater, lots of trucks are fitted with them in Iceland/USA etc but they are mainly to stop your car freezing solid in extreme night cold.

D4's have a fuel burning heater fitted as standard, on later D4's in the UK you can programme the heater to turn on at a set time each day and it then runs for about 20 minutes to heat the inside of the car. There is also the option to have a remote fitted to turn this on each time you want it and about 20 minutes before you need it. If you go onto Disco3 .com there is loads of info and there is even a kit fitted by one person who can ring his car from anywhere and start the heater up
