Auto gearBox won't go into 5th.Also noisey when cold

Hi hope you can help guys.

Freelander 55 plate Diesel with auto box. Just had engine replaced. shortly afterwards the gears stopped going into 5th. The box has also started whinning when cold mainly under acceleration.

sounds as though they have done somthing they should not have go back and complain

Not enough oil in autobox!

but he has only had the engin done do you need to empty the gearbox when doing this?

I wouldnt rule out oil loss though, possibly from the torque converter when the engine was removed.

I cant think of anything else that would limit the gearbox from going into 5th. Only things that come to mind are, incorrect transmission adaptations from new engine, incorrect signal from engine to pcm, or oil loss.
