A different central locking problem

Hi, a long time lurker having owned a couple of series 2, but now got a 99 freelander 2.0di 5 door.
Key fob locks all the doors, opening with kefob opens drivers door with one press and front passenger door and back door with 2 presses, all good so far. But the back passenger doors do not unlock, they remain super locked as it takes 2 pulls on the door handle to open them. If I just unlock the drivers door with one press of the fob, then as I start the engine the front passenger door and back door unlock, and the rear passenger doors try to unlock, but dont probably as they are superlocked. The door unlock/lock switch next to the ash tray does absolutely nothing.
I am guessing the 2 rear passenger doors need new latches as the superlock solenoid appears to be not working, but the other symptons/faults have me confused.
 
When you turn on the ignition with the doors either locked by the fob or key, then the Freelander realises and unlocks them. It's as if it's able to sense they're still in fob or key lock mode, when they shuldn't be, after unlocking and turning on the ignition.

I wouldn't have thought switching the ignition on would have unlocked the doors, but if one of the sensors had failed then as in other posts I have seen on here the doors would continuously try and unlock themselves.
Further investigation has shown that in both back doors the super lock actuators sound as if they are working and the unlock actuators sound as if they are working, but the doors remain superlocked. The door lock switch make all the doors attempt to unlock before the ignition is switched on (but makes no effort once the ignition is on) but does nothing trying to lock them.
Think perhaps I had better leave it all well alone!!!!!
 
My doors stay locked too.

Possibly this is another dealer switchable option - like having one press unlock them all if you prefer?

I like them staying locked.

i had a scenic and that would lock all the doors as you travelled more than ten feet
 
They can't be super locked otherwise pulling the handle wouldn't release the latch.

Unlock/lock solenoid has gone in latch or wiring issue.

I suspect it's the latches but check the wiring first as that's cheap if you do it yourself :)

That sounds very expensive to fix. Probably a whole new ignition and keys/fobs required along with main dealer set-up of the immobiliser and computer. :eek: It's normal and how it should work.

The drive off locking is an option in the compueter that can be turned onable offable.

The issue the OP is having is something different.

If you get into yer Freelander and lock the doors with the remote, then put the key in the ignition and turn on the electrics, then all doors will unlock. This is because the Freelander knows your in it, as you've turned on the ignition, and it knows the current staus of the doors are externally locked as you did it with the remote - it expects you to only use the remote when locking/leaving the Freelander when yer outside it. For some reason the OP is having a simular action, when he shouldn't. I would guess the locks have failed, but I'm surprised 2 went at the same time. :confused:

Not that I know of.

Single point entry (driver unlock only with one fob press) and drive oft locking are optional. I int tried changing mine as I’m happy with single point entry, second press to unlock rest of doors and I choose to lock it when driving oft (handy fer testing).

i'll test mine tomorrow, locking it from the inside and then turning the ignition.

mine also works 1st press for drivers door 2nd press for the rest btw.
 
I think dealers/LR turned on the option of drive oft locking as standard. Not sure if it was available on early models. But that won't fix the OP's problems. would be good to know if his windows all work as that would be a good guess that his earths are (should) be ok.
 
Never having used the door lock switch next to the ashtray, does this work when ignition is on or off. This at the moment does nothing when trying to lock doors, but unlocks (or tries to unlock back doors) before turning ignition on after entering the car. Once the ignition has been turned on and then off it does nothing.
Just thinking switch may be faulty - easy to test and a good starting point.
 
The dash switch is the CDL central door locking. It should work with engine on or oft. It will only unlock or lock (without superlock) all 3 or 5 doors (depending on 3 or 5 door model).
 
Also the CDL switch is disabled when you lock the doors with the fob. If your sat inside and press open/close it does nothing after being locked with the fob. All it is is a 2 contact rocker switch. Push to make contact one way, or push to make contact the other way. Auto rests in the middle.
 
Yes all the windows work. I have tested the cdl switch in another car and it works fine. I have searched and searched the net for an answer but only found one post with the same problem, it occured after he hed the car repaired from a frontal accident. Mine has a newish bumper on it, so wondering now if the inertia switch has something to do with this prob as it unlocks all the doors if the ignition is on and doors not superlocked in the event of a collision, but the fuel pump runs so.......
I have been looking at the explanations and wiring diags on the rave disc I have, but it is for 2001 ym and on Freelanders, and the wiring is different, ie only 3 wires to cdl switch whereas mine has 4 wires.
Is there a RAVE for a 1999 Freelander?
 
I've spent way too much time on this now, still not resolved anything. I have also noted that the front electric windows are supposed to work for about 40 seconds after ignition is turned off, they don't, they stop working as soon as the ignition is turned off.
I am finding it harder to figure out as using the 2001 rave which doesnt have 1999 freelander on it, and there are differences. Also anybody know where header K109 (c0724) is? the rave cd mysteriously omits this from the connector reference.
I am suspecting that the problem lies between the inertia switch and pin16 of c0428 on the ccu

I give in. All the symptons are as if the inertia switch has tripped, it hasn't, there is 12v on pin 16 of C0248 which according to the cct diags is the feed from the inertia switch.
I can unlock the drivers door with one press of fob, all other doors unlock the superlock. Get in car shut door press lock on console switch and drivers door locks, press unlock and all doors unlock, press lock again and nothing happens at all, press unlock and all solenoids click. Put key in ignition turn to pos 2 and all door solenoids attempt to unlock again, with ignition on center console switch does nothing, turn ignition off center console switch still does nothing, open and close drivers door console switch then makes all door solenoids attempt to unlock, but nothing happens when pressing lock.
This appears to be exactly what would happen if the inertia switch had tripped (it hasn't 12v in 12v out) and disconnecting the plug to it makes absolutely no difference to the above symptons.
QUESTIONS
Can I replace the ccu from a same year car without any issues?
Should a 1999 di have a 40 second delay in which the front windows can be operated after turning off the ignition?
Sorry for the long boring post, just thought if I document it, it may help someone else.
